A.T. Havens journal, 1842-1843.

The collection consists of a journal of A.T. Havens for his trip through Georgia and Florida from 1842-1843. Haven's entries describe the scenery along the St. John's River and Jacksonville (Fla.); his arrival at Picolata, a military post; life at the post; plantations; descriptions of St. Mary's (Ga.) and St. Augustine (Fla.); his religious views; slaves and their homes; railroads; and descriptions of Savannah, Macon, and Albany, Georgia. Also mentions encountering General Charles Floyd, Walter T. Colquitt, Bishop Stephen Elliott, and E.A. Nesbit.
